About
Maya Ripley
Maya’s art is largely painted in acrylics, either on Nordic birch or on canvas. She creates by starting with a feeling, or building a message around a main character, then expands the composition around this focal point, setting the stage and supporting the narrative. The colours are bright, warm and vibrant, exuding life.
Mayas art has been shown in several group exhibitions from London to new York, has appeared in books, and in private collections worldwide.
“In my art I work with the concept of a new type of world leader.
World leaders that, like our ancestors and indigenous peoples, understand that nature
does not need us for its existence, but that we in fact are dependent on it for our survival.
I hope to invoke in the viewer a sense of empowerment, reminding us that we have an opportunity every day to
act in ways that support and care for our planet, and by doing so, enrich and enhance our own existence as individuals.
I visualize what these new type of world leaders, or “wisdom keepers” might look like, and then I drape them with nature. A vibrant, bold, graphic nature of floral patterns, inspired by my mixed Balkan/American, and Scandinavian heritage as well as folk art from around the world".
